Who can become a member of SRMO?

SRMO is seeking to build a network of local NGOs, civil society members and human rights activists who are working to promote and protect human rights or provide humanitarian services by peaceful and non-violent means. A Member can be any local NGO or an activist who is involved in humanitarian work, civil society or human rights work and is NOT part of or affiliated with any partisan, state or non-state armed actor, group or political organization that promotes violence, discrimination of any form or promoting hatred against other individuals or groups..

Why become SRMO member:  By becoming a SRMO member you will have the opportunity of becoming part of a vibrant network of NGOs and human rights defenders. Through this network, we will work together to provide solution and response to the humanitarian crisis or needs that are affecting local communities or specific segments of the society such as women and children.

What SRMO can do for its Members:

  • Will keep you informed about SRMOs events and activities;
  • Will provide you with information in Dari and Pashto languages about developments that may affect your security in the provinces of your operations and provide you with risk mitigation advice;
  • Will provide you with protection, based on our assessment, if you suffer serious abuse or are at immediate risk due to your human rights work;

Roles of Members:

  • Will support SRMO’s mission by different activities as agreed;
  • Will participate (if available) in regular meetings to discuss the human rights situation, the needs of the local communities, connects with local NGOs and civil society organizations and shape the 

By agreeing to become a Member you:

  • Declare acceptance of the universality of human rights as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (by promoting human rights of a certain group of people, you should not be denying or speaking out against human rights of other groups of people).
  • Declare that you work by peaceful, non-violent means.
  • Declare that you engage in non-political and nonpartisan activities.
  • Accept SRMO’s rules and Code of Conduct for Members

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR SRMO MEMBERS:

  • Members Will not represent SRMO in any public or private meeting/ events, will not act or speak on behalf of the organization, unless specifically designated by the SRMO management in advance in writing.
  • Members will treat confidentially the internal information received through the SRMO communications and will not share with third parties or publicise it. Members will not share personal information about cases discussed through the SRMO network.
  •  Members will strictly follow the SRMO instructions as provided when taking particular action to support SRMO’s activities.
  • SRMO Members at need of protection will be honest of their needs and will not act in a way of taking personal advantage of the organization.
  • SRMO Members will respect the universality of human rights as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, will not engage in any violent, partisan or abusive conduct and will treat other SRMO members respectfully – will not act, speak or write offensively against any other SRMO members or another NGO or human rights defenders with whom might be in disagreement.

• Connected with a vibrant network of NGOs and individual CSOs.
• Have a say in development of the strategies particularly in regards to the certain human rights situation or humanitarian responses.
• Participate in policy discussions and debates at the local and international levels.
• Receive the newsletter about the events, opportunities and funding.

*SRMO may terminate your membership in the event that you are involved in illegal activity or act in violation of SRMO’s rules and Code of Conduct.
