Voices for Freedom: Neda Parwani’s detention for four months.

(Afghanistan International, 2023)
On September 19th, 2023, in the Khairkhana area of Kabul, at around 8 am, Neda Parwani, a prominent Women’s Human Rights Defender (WHRD) and a key figure in the Spontaneous Movement of Afghan Women, was detained by the Taliban along with her husband and their 4-year-old child in their residence. At the time of her detainment, Neda Parwani was 27 years old.
Neda Parwani remained in Taliban custody for approximately four months until her release on December 15th, 2023. During this period, her family had no information about her whereabouts.
Following her release, it was observed that her health had significantly deteriorated, necessitating her transfer to a hospital for medical treatment.
International organizations such as UNAMA, Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International have expressed deep concerns regarding the issue of violence against Afghan women and the atmosphere of fear perpetuated by the Taliban. Specifically, these organizations have emphasized the urgent need for the immediate and unconditional release of Women’s Human Rights Defenders like Neda Parwani.
For SRMO, it remains a top priority to provide recognition and visibility to victims of Taliban oppression.
