The Women’s Human Rights Defender (WHRD) Manizha Sediqi was detained for nearly 7 months.

The international community has rejected and expressed their disagreement with the Taliban’s recent actions which include the detainment of multiple Human Rights Activists. For us, SRMO, as one of our missions, is a priority to give recognition and visibility to the victims of the Taliban. One of these victims is the Women’s Human Rights Defender (WHRD) Manizha Sediqi who was forcibly disappeared, later found in Taliban custody, and sent to prison on December 5th of the same year (2023) with no charge. She was detained for nearly 7 months (since October 9th of 2023) with neither access to legal representation nor family visits. According to Sahid Zada (a WHRD) –as cited in Amu TV (2024)– «“Sediqi has been subjected to torture and beatings in detention without committing any crime […]” Sahib Zada claimed». The international community must condemn these actions and exhort the Taliban to release her immediately and unconditionally as Amnesty International expressed (2024).

Today on April 7th of 2024 –according to Amu TV (2024)– Huda Khomosh confirmed that Manizha Sediqi was released. The established that Manizha Sediqi’s “[…] release coincided with the Taliban freeing more than 400 prisoners [50 women] from Pul-e-Charkhi prison on the occasion of Eid, by order of their leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada.” (Amu TV, 2024).
